Here at EMS and Bay Skips we pride ourselves on our customer service and approach and are always happy to help any worthy cause we can get involved with.
Courageous Cory’s story really touched us and we were more than happy to help the family with the donation of a skip. A small act of support for an amazing family and a truly inspirational little boy.
Below is a bit of history about Cory along with a link to their Facebook page and fundraiser to improve their home for Cory’s safety and wellbeing. This brave family need all the support they can get and are immensely grateful for all the help they receive. This is a truly worthwile cause and just a little help can change their quality of life.
Cory’s Story
Cory is 7 years old from Brixham in Devon. He was born with moderate to severe hearing loss and had his first set of hearing aids at 9 weeks old. All was well until at 5 months old he started having Infantile Spasms, a rare type of epilepsy. The usual drugs didnt work and he lost all of his developmental skills within a week of being at the hospital. He even lost the ability to smile, couldnt move and would cry a lot.
The Doctors didnt know why the drugs werent stopping the seizures and his Mum noticed he wasn’t looking at things anymore. He was then diagnosed with Cortical Visual Impairment and was registered blind before his first birthday. A deafblind baby.
The drugs failed to ease the epilepsy and Cory was left with severe learning difficulties and very limited mobility. He became extremely tactile and defensive and wouldn’t let anything touch his hands. The world was very scary and frightening. and because he didn’t know what was being fed into his mouth he also developed severe food aversion. After many years of his mum and the school trying to encourage him to eat orally, the decision was made for him to have a gastrostomy tube (PEG) fitted.
What does the future hold for Cory?
There is still no formal diagnosis yet. Cory is part of two genetic studies which have yet to find a cause after many years of waiting.
His Mummy says, “he is a very unique little boy and loves life!”
Just4Children is trying to raise monies for urgent and vital adaptions to Cory’s home to improve the quality of his life.
Just4Children is passionate about the relief of sickness & preservation of good physical & mental health of children & young people under 25 years resident in the United Kingdom & Ireland by providing & assisting in the provision of services & grants to enable them to obtain their medical needs.
Please follow the link to their Facebook page and just giving page where you can also help improve the quality of life for this beautiful little boy and his family.
The family need help modifying their home. The proposed extension would greatly improve the quality of life for Cory and the family. As Cory is getting older and heavier, a ground floor bedroom and wet room with hoist will mean that they won’t have to carry him up and down the stairs and lift him in and out of the bath.
A storeroom for all of Cory’s equipment will mean more space for the family and a purpose built sensory room will provide Cory with a safe area to explore and seek out stimulation.
EMS are proud to announce the very recent delivery of twins. . . Well two brand new shiny lorries!
These add to our EMS Plymouth fleet which many know was formally Dusty Bin skip hire. It was definitely time for the other lorries to have a makeover, and so the rebranding of Dusty Bin to EMS started to take place.
Supplying Plymouth and its surrounding areas for over 30 years, Dusty Bin had extensive waste management experience. The acquisition by EMS Waste Services Ltd has proved to be a perfect opportunity for Plymouth businesses and residents to experience hassle free waste management.
About our services
Sheer quality of service is why you should call EMS Waste Services Ltd for any and all of your waste management needs. Top class skip hire is the main objective. A truly hassle-free service that can be relied upon no matter how big or small the job at hand may be.
There are many size skips available, depending on your purposes. EMS Waste Services is easily able to cater to everything from waste recycling to asbestos collection and disposal. Considerable effort is consistently spent to ensure your experience as a valued customer is always a top priority.
This stress-free approach to waste management applies to every level of the service – not only the delivery, collection and disposal of the waste. For example, filling in and filing of any appropriate paperwork that may be necessary, or generation of any reports you may require.
Our dedicated staff are committed, knowledgeable and innovative, in a diverse and progressive environment. Our customers rely on our advice, competitiveness and outstanding service, every time.
Currently, EMS recycles more than 95% of the waste we recover. We take our environmental responsibility very seriously, and we’re always striving to help our customers achieve their green potential. We are confident of eventually reaching our zero waste to landfill goal.

Sometimes a day out is just what everyone needs, and this was true for us here at EMS Waste too!
It wasn’t the most beautiful day weather-wise back in the ‘summer’, but we put a good show on at the West Cornwall Truck Show, where one of our drivers, Darrell, took one of our ROROs (Roll On Roll Off, a type of skip container). The truck, and the skip on its back, both shone after some polishing and elbow grease, even despite the lack of sun, and gave the curious public a chance to have a good look at what we can do.
A RORO is a great skip for almost any occasion. It is mobile, quickly transported on the back of a truck, and sturdy. As such, it can be moved into position when you need it, but taken away as soon as you want it gone. There are skips available in every size, from the massive containers required at building sites, to smaller ones that can be parked in front of your home while you rip out your bathroom or kitchen over a weekend. A Roll On Roll Off skip can be your new best friend. And, you can rent it for however long you need it for, whether it is for just a weekend, or for longer-term rents where we will come by to change it once it is full.
Plus, we can make your life extra easy by dropping off a skip where you want it, picking it up again, and then taking it back to our waste transfer station to be processed. We are dedicated to helping the environment by making sure we recycle as much of what comes out of our skips as we can, so that’s another worry wiped away.
We’ve been on the move!
As you know Dusty Bin are now part of EMS Waste. This exciting partnership means that EMS Waste is now even bigger and able to provide waste management services to more people within the Devon and Plymouth areas.
Dusty Bin has now settled into their new site, but we thought we’d share a little bit about the exciting journey with you and what services they can offer.
Moving day
The moving day itself was a busy and eventful one. At least it was easy to find a skip! Moving into the new cabin on the EMS Waste site included a day of carrying out repairs in order to pimp up the office area. In fact, this process took several weeks, but on September 9th the office was finished and ready for business.
During the renovation process, the top of the cabin was removed to fix holes! In fact, it was touch and go at the time to see if they could be fixed, so quotes were also obtained. But, luckily, the cabin roof was easily fixed and made water tight. Walls were painted (narrowly missing a member of staff, who nearly got painted into a corner), the floor repaired and the CCTV disconnected, then reconnected. The entire cabin was also cleaned from top to bottom. Everything was done and ticked off the to-do list, apart from the hot tub request that was sadly declined! Needless to say, the Dusty Bin office staff are now settled in and are getting to know their yard colleagues.
Still the same great service
Dusty Bin is still offering the same great services it has always delivered to the residents and businesses of Plymouth and Devon. The only difference is that the team is now based in a new yard and are part of EMS Waste. We offer skip hire and waste management services which include recycling and waste collection. Skip Hire Magazine vote our very own Chloe Skip Chick of the Month
If you’re like us, you love a good skip as much as the next enthusiast. We love them even more when someone recognises our work in the field.
We were chuffed from head to toe when Skip Hire Magazine awarded our delightful employee Chloe Elizabeth Hammond their prestigious Skip Chick of the Month accolade.
Chloe has been at EMS Waste Management for five years and, by all accounts, is loving it, from banter with her fellow skip lorry drivers through to the time she got stuck in a 12 yard skip. We’re not quite sure how Chloe managed that, but we love and admire her for it in equal measure.
Kicking it in the Ukraine
Hands up if you can speak Ukrainian? Don’t worry if you can’t. Chloe’s your girl if ever you must talk your way out of a scrape with angry Ukrainians.
She confessed to the magazine that after hoofing a lady on the bus accidentally while on holiday, she politely thanked her. ‘Thank you’ may have been the only Ukrainian phrase she knew, but the lesson stands: good manners will get you far.
Walking on the wild side
We do confess we’re a little bit in awe of Chloe at EMS Waste Management because she has rubbed shoulders with celebrities in the past. When she was just 16, our blue-eyed skip lorry driver met the TV presenter Nick Baker, of ‘The Really Wild Show’. We hear he’s a good guy.
Whipping up a treat
When she’s not working her magic behind the wheel for us, Chloe cooks up some mean French toast with bacon and maple syrup at home.
We’d love to try that sometime, but for now we’d like to congratulate Chloe and roar her on towards the Skip Chick of the Year title.
Good luck, Chloe!

Our new waste transfer site in Exeter is running like clockwork
The opening of our new waste transfer site means that we start the New Year in a stronger position than ever to provide our customers with the waste disposal services they need. The new site is now fully operational, quickly processing multiple kinds of waste so that they can be recycled or disposed of appropriately. With a larger capacity than ever before, we are now able to serve more domestic and commercial customers across the South-West. Our fresh site allows us to operate even more efficiently, helping us to keep costs competitive without compromising on the service you receive.
Take advantage of the waste disposal services we offer
Our team provides a complete solution to your waste disposal: from garden clear outs through to large-scale construction waste removal (including the disposal of hazardous waste), we can get the job done.
The main types of waste which we are able to remove are:
– Green waste: this includes lawn trimmings, timber, hedge cuttings and weeds. Drop the waste off directly, or ask us about skip hire for larger quantities. – Commercial waste disposal: we are able to provide skips in which to deposit your waste, as well as arrange pick-up and collection as required. – Asbestos and hazardous substances: our team are able to remove asbestos safely and dispose of it appropriately. – Scrap metal: we pay good money for a variety of scrap metals and can collect from the Exeter/Paignton area. – Waste recycling: our comprehensive recycling facilities allow us to recycle glass, paper, timber, metal and much more. Currently, more than 90% of the waste which we collect is recycled in some form!
We also offer a huge range of skip hire options, as well as assistance with waste management.
Now that our new waste transfer site is open, we look forward to being able to provide an even better service to our South-West customers.
Remember this time last year when we were hit by the snow? Well the Beast from the East was no match with this SW firm!
Starting the year with a big clear out of your home, site or business premises brings a flurry of activity to shift rubbish, which could be “snow fun” in January and February!
Weather forecasters are warning a new version of the Beast from the East is set to bring harsh weather to the UK.
The good news is that this doesn’t need to stop your project. You can still start your “spring clean” early or generally shift unwanted items or general waste. Come hail or high winds, skip hire in Devon and the surrounding area can still be a “snow brainer” with EMS.
Yellow in the snow can be good!
Have you ever heard the expression that you should avoid “yellow snow”? Well, there’s no need to worry about our distinctive yellow skips when the cold front comes, as they really stand out.
We also offer a “stand out” service to get them into place, and collect them in a timely fashion, whatever the weather.
Is it possible to hire skips in severe weather?
Weather does not stop play when you know how to provide reliable waste management services, even when the “ice is right” outside your door.
We have the equipment and expertise for reliable and cost effective skip hire all year round. So, the Beast of the East in early 2018 was no match for our vehicles and skills!
Whatever the next few weeks bring, there will be nothing to stop us from coming in from the cold and getting your skip needs sorted, including arranging any necessary paperwork and local authority permission for roadside placement. Which all means that you can go ahead and plan your building or waste removal project in the Devon area.
Give us a call to discuss your waste management needs.
With EMS you can be sure of a warm service, and the comfort of fair prices even when we have to “battle the elements” to get to you.
