Is there really any point to a Mini Skip?

Is there really any point to a Mini Skip?

AS YOU CAN TELL BY THE NAME, MINI SKIPS ARE SMALL. MEASURING IN AT 2.5 CUBIC YARDS OF CAPACITY, THEY’RE THE SAME SHAPE AS THEIR BIGGER COUSINS, JUST ON A MUCH SMALLER SCALE!

BUT IF THEY’RE SO SMALL, HOW CAN THEY POSSIBLY BE USEFUL?

SOME JOBS ARE JUST RIGHT FOR A MINI SKIP!

There’s a surprising number of jobs that suit mini skip hire perfectly – both domestic and commercial.

One of the most common commercial applications for a mini skip is for the disposal of plasterboard, which can’t be mixed with other kinds of waste.

Contractors will hire a mini skip as a secondary option for disposing of drywall and keeping it separate from other materials for easier processing. A secondary mini skip is sometimes used to clear up general waste produced on site and for a final cleanup once a job is completed.

SO WHY ARE MINI SKIPS POPULAR FOR DOMESTIC PROJECTS?

Domestic skip hire customers love mini skips! Because they’re usually just the right size for a small DIY job. Also, their low height makes them very easy to fill with little more than a wheelbarrow for assistance. Plus, the small footprint of mini skips means they’ll fit on most driveways with plenty of room left over to park a car.

As an added bonus, they’re more cost effective to hire than a full size skip, making them a very attractive proposition indeed.

Garden clearances, bathroom refurbishment and even a small kitchen renovation could all be completed with a mini skip.
And even though 2.5 cubic yards doesn’t sound like a lot, you’d be surprised at what you can fit in there.

MINI SKIP – WHAT CAN YOU FIT INSIDE?

Mini skips are deceptively big and you’ll be able to get a lot in there. A bit like Mary Poppins bag!!

As an example, think about your bath at home and how much that can hold; a mini skip can hold around twelve times as much. In fact, you can fit around two and a half tons of packed rubble into a mini skip – pretty impressive for the smallest skip in our fleet!

Give us a call to discuss what you need your skip for and we’ll happily give you a free, no obligation quotation.

What can I put in my Skip?

What can I put in my Skip?

WHEN UNDERTAKING A PROJECT, EITHER DOMESTIC OR COMMERCIAL – THE PRODUCTION OF WASTE AS A BYPRODUCT IS INEVITABLE.

DISPOSING OF THIS ETHICALLY DOES NOT HAVE TO BE A CHORE – WITH SKIP HIRE FROM EMS TO SUIT ALL YOUR NEEDS.

Of course, depending on the nature of your project – your method of waste disposal will be affected, due to regulations surrounding the safe disposal of items such as asbestos, gas cylinders and solvents, to name but a few.

So, knowing this – we’ve compiled a handy list of what you should and shouldn’t be putting in your hired skip – what size of skip you will need and how many bin bags you can fit into your skip hired and delivered by EMS.

WHAT YOU SHOULD AND SHOULDN’T PUT IN YOUR SKIP

Generally, the rule of thumb is to avoid electrical items such as fridges. These sort of items are disposed of separately as they need degassing, due to their degrading properties.

We can take white goods, such as washing machines, dishwashers and cookers, to name a few.

As well as white goods, we can take plasterboard – at an additional cost, and tyres at an additional cost. Items such as batteries, paints (emulsion, but not gloss), can be included in general waste.

Due to the reports surrounding the danger of asbestos, companies are now required to comply with the law and dispose of the material by a specialist contractor.

These can either be instructed directly or through your local council. It is very important not to mix this with any other material in your skip.

WHICH SIZE SKIP SHOULD I HIRE FOR MY JOB?

Skip hire can range from a mini skip, holding up to 25 rubbish bags, to a 40-yard skip, holding up to 400 bin bags. In addition to these – there are many variations in between, that suit a variety of bespoke needs.

In addition to their different sizes, skips can be issued in different types, including open, closed, drop and RORO.

Ultimately, the size and types of skip you need will depend on the job in question – including the size and content of it. See th different sizes on our Skip Hire page as an indication of this.

CAN I HIRE A SKIP IN MY AREA?

As a skip hire company offering comprehensive waste disposal services to a number of locations in the Southwest– we aim to offer the highest quality service, from delivery into most areas suitably sized, to pick up in our specialised rear loading skip truck, which is able to be controlled remotely – offering the driver increased visibility in order to avoid any unnecessary damage to both the skip and the immediate surrounds.

A BIT OF LOADER HISTORY

Volvo’s, or rather BM’s, first wheeled loader was the H10. But where did it come from?

To start with, engineers simply turned an agricultural tractor back-to-front. By placing the loader unit over the bigger wheels, they reasoned that it would be capable of lifting heavier loads.

The H10 wheeled loader was based on a series of different tractors, including the BM 470. The H10 was a major success at the time; it was the world’s first wheeled loader with a parallel linkage, double-acting lift rams and a purpose-designed attachment bracket.

In 1986, Volvo brought its first ‘L’ series loading shovel to the market – namely the L160. The ‘L’ designation is still in use today.

L means loader and the number indicates the full turn tipping load

FULLY LOADED

Whatever the job, we have the tools to get it done. Volvo offers a full range of Volvo buckets, including general purpose, grading,
refuse, light material, and more, to handle everything, from light material to heavy rocks. Built on decades of engineering excellence, Volvo buckets are optimized for Volvo wheel loaders and durably designed for all types of materials and tasks.

THE NEW L70 LOADING SHOVEL – AN UPDATED MODEL FOR OPTIMUM RESULTS

Its packed with innovative features that achieve up to 20% greater fuel efficiency than older models. Combining new optimized loading unit weight, redesigned counterweight, and increased top speed of 50km/h, facilitated by the optional lock-up function, the next-generation wheel loader delivers greater profitability in every load.

Check out our EMS Calendar Girls

We’re incredibly proud to be involved with the latest charity calendar being organised by Girl Torque.
Our girls have done their photo shoot and we think the photos are fab!

Here’s a few snippets from the article published in Truck and Driver. It makes great reading!

Brought together by a passion for their profession, a group of drivers are producing a calendar to raise money for various charities

Road transport may be facing a wider range of problems than ever, but it keeps on going; the blood in the veins that keep the heart of our nation pumping. Those wheels keep turning, in the face of ever greater adversity.

That’s because when you strip it all down to the bare bones, there’s a spine of incredible, inspirational people who go above and beyond what they need to get the job done and seek to support others.

Look at the amount of charitable and fundraising events organised by truck drivers. Would you find anything close to that per-capita in any other industrial sector? Don’t think so.

“Truck driving brings people together, it creates bonds and unites, and forges friendships for life. For some folk, yeah, it’s just a job. But for others, that feeling of freedom, of the open road, that inexplicable need to keep on moving and exploring; it becomes a compulsion.

It burrows into your soul and it never really leaves you. You either get it or you don’t”

That’s ultimately what’s brought this group of women together; a mutual respect, a passion for the work they do and the career they’ve chosen. This industry badly needs more drivers full stop! Not just women!.

THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THE GIRL TORQUE CALENDAR IS KAREN SUTHERLAND.

She came up with the concept after hearing a variety of comments and opinions over the years about women drivers, whether she asked for them or not. “I wanted a way to show everyone what we do as drivers and raise some money for charity too” she explains, “There are plenty of women who are more than capable of doing this job out there. It shouldn’t matter whether you are male or female! These women do what they do for the love of the job, not the attention.”

This years calendar will feature 48 female drivers from different sectors of the haulage industry. Each month has four showing off the truck they drive and the work they do.

SPONSORSHIP

EMS and Stuarts have sponsored this fabulous calendar and are really proud to be associated Girl Torque. Other sponsors include Volvo UK, Michelin Tyres, STAS Trailers and Gray & Adams Trailers just to name a few. GIRL TORQUE IS A NOT FOR PROFIT ORGANISATION WHO ARE WISHING TO NORMALISE AND PROMOTE HARD WORKING FEMALES IN THE TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS SECTOR, WHILST RAISING MONEY FOR VARIOUS CHARITIES

Female HGV Drivers at EMS

When you think of a HGV driver you’d be forgiven for usually thinking of a man. However this role is becoming increasingly popular with women of all ages and we have to say some of our best drivers are girls!

We’ve actively promoted sexual equality in the work place for years and think its great that more and more women are taking an interest in the role.

We’ve had people join us from other companies and we’ve also trained from within the company and they’ve been amazing!

The haulage industry is traditionally seen as a male dominated industry and the figures speak for themselves. Out of over 315,000 registered truck drivers in the UK, only a very small percentage are Female!

BUT numbers are on the rise and the Female Trucker roles are gaining popularity. There are many female truckers posting on TikTok with videos showing their life on the road. Girl Torque are using their flatform to promote and normalise hard working females.

We like to think we’re forward thinking in our approach to recruitment and hopefully this driver shortage will encourage more female drivers to look for a change of career.

We’d love to hear from anyone (male or female) looking to return to HGV work or even a new challenge.

Get in contact and we’d be happy to discuss any possible vacancies we may have.

NEW ELECTRIC POWERED SENNEBOGEN

NEW ELECTRIC POWERED SENNEBOGEN

EMS PURCHASES A NEW ELECTRIC POWERED SENNEBOGEN 818E.

EMS has purchased it first fully electric mobile machine to feed our waste processing plant in Exeter. The Sennebogen supplied by Molson Group is part of our process moving from diesel equipment to alternative fuels.

Our new addition will reduce fuel consumption and noise providing a better working environment.

SENNEBOGEN

SENNEBOGEN was founded in 1952 to develop and produce machines for the agricultural industry. The company has now established itself as a full service provider and quality leader in crane technology and material handling. As an international company, SENNEBOGEN develops and produces complete model ranges for duty cycle cranes, crawler cranes, telescopic and harbour cranes, material handlers, telehandlers as well as base carriers.

In addition to flexible machines from series production, SENNEBOGEN also designs individual specialised machines in close collaboration with its clients.

SENNEBOGEN 818 – ELECTRIC MATERIAL HANDLER FOR ECONOMICAL HANDLING OPERATIONS

For over 25 years, SENNEBOGEN has been an innovation leader in electrically driven material handlers. In addition to savings of up to 50% in operating costs compared to conventional diesel engines, electric material handlers offer further cost and efficiency advantages. At the bauma, SENNEBOGEN is showing the new SENNEBOGEN 818 with a 90 kW electric motor and a cable drum mounted on the undercarriage, as an example of its wide range of models.

The advantages of electro-hydraulic drive systems are many and varied – as are the implementation versions of the SENNEBOGEN material handlers. Every machine from the current product range can be customized with an electric motor at the plant. The advantages of the electric material handlers are clear. A low wear allows considerably longer service intervals in comparison to a diesel engine.

Oil and filter changes are eliminated at the same time. In addition, the electrically driven machines are always ready for operation and work around the clock without refueling if necessary. In the end, the SENNEBOGEN electric material handlers not only run more cost-efficiently but are also especially environmentally friendly and emission-free.

Furthermore, electro-hydraulic drive systems have a much higher working comfort for the operator, thanks to vibration-free and low-noise drives.

SENNEBOGEN ELECTRIC MATERIAL HANDLERS – IN SUMMARY

  • Economical and efficient: Up to 50% savings in operating and energy costs
  • Compact and flexible: Compact dimensions, various power supplies possible
  • Mobility for every application: Powerpack solutions for freely movable machines, integrated Powerpack for flexible use
  • Zero emissions: Clean technology, low noise level for a pleasant work environment
  • Always ready for use: Work without refueling, longer service and maintenance intervals

COMPACT ELECTRIC MATERIAL HANDLER FOR INDOOR OPERATION

At the bauma, SENNEBOGEN is now presenting the smallest material handler, the 818, in the electric version as well. Equipped with a 90 kW electric motor and mobile undercarriage, the machine combines maximum flexibility with the advantages of an electrohydraulic drive.

The necessary cylindrical cable drum has been directly mounted on the undercarriage. In this configuration with 10 m long equipment including sorting grab, the 818 is optimally suited, for example, for sorting and loading activities in indoor operation. The compact basic dimensions of the machine with a width of only 2.50 m and a length of 4.36 m also offer further advantages in confined spaces.

Whether in waste management, recycling, or scrap handling, wherever fast operating cycles are required, for example, for feeding plants or loading trucks, the proven 1-cylinder system impresses with fast cycles and maximum reliability. With a continuously adjustable height of up to 2.70 m, the operator has an optimum overview of the working area from the comfortable Maxcab comfort cab. Several cameras and extensive periphery lighting provide a complete overview, and all machine parameters can be monitored on the SENCON control system.

Stay tuned for new recycling equipment arriving later this year!
