Volvo Trucks has now sold more than 4,300 electric trucks in more than 38 countries. Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, says: “We are determined to lead the electric truck transformation and our market leading position in 2022, not only in Europe, but also in North America, is proof that we are doing just that.
“Although, the market for electric trucks is still small compared to the traditional diesel variants, the trend is clear: many of our customers are now starting their own shift to electric. We intend to be the catalyst for this transition and aim for 50 per cent of our global sales of new trucks to be electric in 2030.”
Since Volvo Trucks started production of fully electric trucks in 2019, the company has sold more than 4,300 electric trucks in more than 38 countries around the world. Volvo currently offers the industry’s broadest product line-up of electric trucks in series production, catering to a very wide variety of operational domains both in and between cities.
“We now have a product portfolio that can cover most types of transportation for all kinds of customers,” adds Alm.
“Looking at the goods flow patterns in Europe, it’s clearly possible to electrify nearly half of all those transport operations with our line-up of electric trucks. We see it as our mission to support our customers in making that happen.”
The 10 largest markets for electric trucks, based on number of registrations ≥16 tonnes, in Europe are:
Germany – 198 Sweden – 169 Norway – 150 France – 118 Switzerland – 103 UK – 101 Netherlands – 89 Spain – 79 Denmark – 48 Belgium – 17

Volvo Trucks is introducing a new safety system to detect other road users entering the blind spot on both sides of the truck.
Volvo Trucks’ new safety system uses a dual radar on each side of the truck to detect other road users – such as cyclists. In busy traffic situations, it is difficult for even the most experienced driver to perceive everything around the vehicle. To increase safety and ease stress on the driver, Volvo Trucks is offering its new system which uses a dual radar on each side of the truck to detect when other road users, such as cyclists, enter the risk area.
“An accident can happen in a split second. Our extensive accident research is based on decades of studying real-life situations, and this new safety system helps the driver to prevent potential collisions,” says Anna Wrige Berling, Traffic & Product Safety Director at Volvo Trucks.
When someone is in the blind spot zone, the system, called Side Collision Avoidance Support, informs the driver via a red light on the relevant side mirror.
If the driver indicates a lane change via the turn signal, the red light starts to flash and a warning sound emits from the side of the potential collision. The driver is alerted and can brake the truck, allowing for example a cyclist to pass.
“At Volvo Trucks, our long-term vision is zero accidents, and safety is at the core of everything we do. This new system is another example of our efforts to accomplish these aims,” concludes Wrige Berling.
The new system will be available globally on the Volvo FH range, FM and FMX with diesel, gas and electric drivelines, starting in September this year. The Volvo FL and FE models will get the new safety system in 2023.

A bit of History
The family business started transporting cattle in 1946, when Mr Alf Stuart bought a second hand Dodge.
We then expanded with Roy and Ross joining the business after leaving school. In 1968 they bought a new Volvo F88, one of the first in the country. They used this F88 to pull the first double deck articulated cattle transporter in Great Britain, which was designed by the Stuarts.
In 1977 we expanded again this time becoming Stuart’s Commercials ‘the official Volvo Truck Dealer for Devon’. The business flourished under the guidance of Ross Stuart.
In 1990 Roy’s son Troy joined the partnership. Later the workshop was extended by another five bays and more personnel were employed. In 2004 Stuart’s were given the opportunity to take over the Volvo Dealerships at Saltash and Redruth in Cornwall.
This done, they went about building a new workshop in Plymouth to relocate the Saltash depot, and carried out improvements at the Redruth depot.
Today Stuart’s Truck and Bus cover the South West peninsula from Bridgwater and Bridport through to Land’s End.
We’re proud to fly the Volvo flag in the Southwest

WELL HERE WE GO AGAIN! WHAT CAN WE SAY? LOCKDOWN NUMBER THREE IS UPON US.
After what can only be described as the most bizarre year ever we were really hoping that by now things might have started to return to normal but it appears we were being way to optimistic.
We were one of the fortunate companies that continued to trade as normal during last years chaos and we wanted to take the opportunity to thank all of our loyal customers once again for the support you showed us. It was a horrible year for many of us and being separated from our loved ones was the hardest part so we were very grateful to still have some normality regarding work.
SO LOCKDOWN NUMBER 3 HERE WE COME!
Well the good news is that we’re still allowed to keep trading as usual for the majority of the business. So Volvo are still open, the farming and property side and mainly EMS so we’ll be here for all your Skip Hire, Waste Management and Scrap Metal requirements.
Remember you can book your skip online to save time. Just go to the book online button and choose your size and area and we’ll do the rest!
If you need any of our services we are following very strict social distancing guidelines for the safety of both our staff and customers. For further help and advice please give the office a call. We’re always happy to help.
In the meantime stay safe and healthy and lets hope they manage to get this awful virus under control very soon.
WE JUST WANTED TO WISH ALL OUR CUSTOMERS A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A SAFE, HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR.
Well what can we say? 2020 has possibly been the most bizarre year ever!
We’ve been fortunate enough to continue business as usual but we appreciate that many of our friends, families, customers and colleagues have been affected massively by this horrible virus.
The future is still looking uncertain but we wanted to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you for all the support and well wishes we have received. We couldn’t have done it without the support of you all.
Here at Stuarts we pride ourselves on our high levels of customer service and the fact that we’ve been allowed to continue working means we’ve been able to uphold that service.
We will be closing for the festive period at midday on the 24th December and resuming business as usual on the 4th January 2021.
Let’s take advantage of our one day to see loved ones on Christmas Day and stay safe and well.
Here’s to an amazing 2021 for everyone and we look forward to working with you again and really appreciate and value the ongoing support you have shown us.
